BIOGRAPHICAL NOTE
Mary
G. BOSS
Mary Boss is a specialist in cross-cultural communication and international career design. She is the founder of MBoss International, a firm specializing in expatriate training, coaching and consulting. She has worked with top North American and European business schools, training professional careers staffs as well as lecturing to student populations.
As a public speaker, trainer and facilitator, Mary has worked with international groups on topics ranging from self-assessment, cross-cultural interviewing and salary negotiation to health topics such as cultural attitudes towards chronic disease and organ donation.
From 1988-2003, she was Director of INSEAD business school’s MBA Career Management Service in France and Singapore. At INSEAD, Mary managed an international team of career professionals, planned and taught a career management curriculum, advised global corporate recruiters and coached MBA candidates from around the world. Through her work she developed a strong appreciation of European cultures and management styles. She is currently a regular lecturer at several North American business schools as well as for the Masters in Real Estate Finance Programme at Cambridge University.
Mary received her BA in political science in 1974 from Wheaton College ( Norton, Massachusetts). She also holds a MA in Diplomacy from The American University in Washington, DC, with a specialization in foreign policy and the Islamic world. From 1977-1980, she served as Special Assistant to the Crown Prince of Jordan, based in Amman. She travelled extensively with Prince Hassan, working primarily on protocol, press liaison and economic research. In 1980 she moved to Paris to take up the job as Press Attaché to the Aga Khan, based at his secretariat outside Paris. In 1985, she started her own consulting business in Paris, specializing first in communications and media, and then increasingly in HR management in Europe. She is the author of extensive market research on international executive search as well as editor of a reference book for HR professionals in Europe.
An American expatriate for more than 25 years, Mary now has offices – and homes - in both France near Fontainebleau and in St. Paul Minnesota.
